The DANA at the end of October caused almost 220 deaths in the province of Valencia alone, a figure that may increase as there are still people missing. In addition, this environmental catastrophe has left thousands of families in the most affected areas with nothing or in a very precarious situation.
This year, our Christmas campaign, for which we donate our budget for gifts, will be dedicated to the families of Valencia and will be developed through Aldeas Infantiles SOS.
As the NGO explains, all emergencies such as the one we have experienced in Spain go through several phases. The initial emergency is followed by a second, long and complex one, aimed at recovery and stabilization, which, in a later phase, will lead to normality. The families in Valencia are already in this second stage. For this reason, SOS Children’s Villages has designed an accompaniment program that includes different types of support to cover basic needs. At all times, the organization will pay special attention to the very complicated reality of the childrenliving in the devastated areas, especially those who were already vulnerable before the hurricane. Our contribution, with the collaboration of our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders, will be focused on this project, which will hinge on actions centered on these aspects:
- Psychological support: this catastrophe can lead to mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression, and aggravate some previous ones.
- Kits of basic materials and direct economic aid: these will be delivered to families after analyzing the situation and needs of each case.
- Support for administrative procedures: important for recovering documentation lost or destroyed by water or processing aid and subsidies.
As every year, our Christmas campaign is based on the cooperation of our partners, who only have to click a button on an email. The rest of the operation, including the donation, is taken care of by MailComms Group.
“Families in the areas affected by the DANA Valencia have seen their life projects paralyzed or truncated in a single day. The wave of solidarity that we have experienced in Spain, following the tragedy, has been commendable. At MailComms Group we also want to accompany these people, who have lost everything, in this phase of the emergency in which the objective is to pave the way for progress towards normalization”, stated Javier Echebarría, CEO of the group.
During the last decade, MailComms Group has worked with entities such as Vicente Ferrer, Unicef, Save The Children, Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and Aldeas Infantiles, which is, in fact, the NGO with which it all began.
In any case, if you want to collaborate directly to improve the welfare of families in Valencia, you can do so through this page.
Thank you for your collaboration and we take this opportunity to wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
